My First Podcast Trial - Food Writing As Inspiration For Freelance Writers
Time: 5 mins 30 seconds
Be gentle, as it’s my first ever podcast and as you can tell, I was a tad nervous. But I would love some constructive feedback on this.
I think this is probably too long. Any tips or feedback welcome.

Congratulations Yvonne for jumping into the waters of podcasting!
I enjoyed listening to your piece and was sufficiently motivated to head over and subscribe to the two blogs you mentioned. (I was particularly motivated by the possibility of writing so well I could generate a marriage proposal!)
In terms of feedback on the podcast it sounded like you relaxed into it as you went along, and I’m sure you’ll find that’s even more the case when you do the next one.
I don’t know about ideal length, I keep mine under 5 minutes( and often shorter than that) but that’s because I myself have a short attention span. There are a lot of podcasts out there that are much longer.
Only other sugggestion - I know it seems like duplicate work but it might help to jot down some of the key points from the podcast so the ‘host post’ is a little more complete and gives some pointers as to what to expect. This also helps in terms of findability and search engines.
Best wishes - and look forward to hearing the next one!

Hi Joanna
You’re right. I did start to feel more relaxed as it progressed, so I guess like everything it’s just practice and confidence.
It was fun, though so I’ll definitely be doing more podcasts. Thanks for your feedback on the length too and for the reminder about adding the key points in the written part of the post. I really value your insights and suggestions.

I’m glad you’re trying this. I’ve been considering it too, but haven’t really had time to pursue it. I’ll definitely follow your progress with this.
It was good to finally hear your voice.

Hi Laura
I enjoyed doing it. I look forward to your first podcast when you have a chance to give it a try.
Yvonne, I loved this podcast as well as the opportunity to hear your voice after corresponding with you for more than a year and co-blogging with you at Home Biz Notes for six months. I also found the topic, food writing, very interesting since I write a weekly food column, “Country Kitchen,” for newspapers which now appears on the Internet. I have a Country Kitchen blog, but haven’t really done much with it. Your podcast inspires me to update it and get it active again. Also, readers often ask me when I’m going to compile my columns into a book. So the market may be there!

Yvonne, what a neat idea. Pulling up the commenter’s last blog post with a live link.
Great job, Yvonne! You should keep doing these. They’re a great addition. Audio adds another dimension.

Hi Easton
Thanks. Audio does add another dimension, as you suggest - also a heightened sense of connection.
I definitely will be doing more.

Congratulations on your first podcast Yvonne. As you got into it your increased confidence came through and you sounded more relaxed. I think you spoke at a very good pace and your voice was well modulated to add the variety needed.
Don’t really have any other advice than to get a few more under your belt.

I really appreciate your feedback Karen, as you were one of the bloggers who inspired me to give it a go. Thanks so much.
Congrats Yvonne for doing your first podcast. Just like a first post, you’ll only get better and better. I did my first video cast. Took a lot of time initially but now I’m doing my 3rd.

Hi James
That’s great advice, thanks. Congrats on the videocasts. Videocasting is next on my steep learning curve list.
I bought a webcam the other day, and have been experimenting.
Hi Yvonne,
Congratulations! I loved hearing your voice and this topic was brilliant. Our business writing can benefit from reading and practicing other forms of writing. You are right that travel and food writers have a keen talent for the sensory. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Yvonne! Very nice! I was just looking at some software on my mac that will help me with doing podcast for Interview Chatter. I am so glad you jumped in and shared your first one.
I must get it done before the end of the month. Thanks for sharing, keep on talking!!

[…] I’ve certainly experienced blogger burnout on occasion. I’ve also experienced the highs of a great comment thread conversation, the camaraderie of the blogging community or the thrill of exploring a new skill such as my first ever podcast. […]
