Blogging is a Tapestry

In a recent post, I asked for suggestions for collective nouns for a group of bloggers.

My friend Rachel suggested a “tapestry of bloggers”. She said “I think bloggers are unique and beautiful in their own way and when you bring them together, they seem like a lovely form of tapestry.”

A Blog Tapestry

I love the concept of a tapestry of bloggers, with all the interwoven threads from our collective memories, experiences, different cultures, interests and expertise.

As we try new ideas, add to the conversations at other blogs and open ourselves to new perspectives, we add new colours and patterns. All the while we are adding to the tapestry. We learn new techniques. We try approaches we are not sure will work. We fine tune and add new textures. Missed stitches and bold experiments just add to the uniqueness of the tapestry, as we hone our craft.

The Power of the Blog Tapestry

What is intriguing about the blog tapestry, is that there is no set pattern to follow, and that it will probably never be finished. Therein lies its strength and power. It is not about a final product, but about the ongoing process of sharing and seeng the richness of the shared tapestry unfold.

Most important and affirming of all is that the tapestry belongs to all of us. The many textured threads of our thoughts and words connect us. Without all of us being part of the weaving, stitching and rethinking process, the blog tapestry would not be the rich and beautiful experience that it is.

Celebrate My 100th Post With Me

Sharing the blog tapestry metaphor is an apt way to celebrate my 100th post, the friendships I have made and what you have all taught me. Thank you so much for being a part of the tapestry, and for helping to shape it.

This post is part of the What’s Your Blogging Metaphor? group writing project.

  1. Yvonne,

This is a beautiful metaphor. Blogging is about the process and not the result, and the many different colors, textures, and shapes make the tapestry lovely.

  5. Hey there,

I think this is great. Because of your focus on the journey, and not just the destination… I certainly agree with that!

  7. Congratulations on you 100th post, Yvonne. I am enjoying a lot those writing projects. Same topic, different approaches. Rachel is right. Bloggers combined is like a tapestry. How colorful! I’m still collecting enough courage to give it a try. I hope it will be around for a long while.
