What is the Collective Noun for Bloggers? Your Suggestions Please

Note: This is an ongoing list which will be updated as we go, so please keep sending in suggestions.

Collective nouns have always intrigued and amused me. They can be used effectively in writing as they immediately conjure up a word picture, and you can have a lot of fun with them e.g. -

Politicians sat in session, trying to look wise, but succeeded only in looking asleep on their perches, much like “a parliament of owls.”

A “parliament of owls” and “a murder of crows” are actually authentic collective nouns. It’s often even more fun to make up your own. Some I saw recently include “a wobble of unicycles” and “an absence of waiters.”

What Would YOU Call a Collection of Bloggers?

Get your thinking caps on. I want to know - What do YOU call a collection of bloggers? I’m collating a list, as I think this could be fun. I can hardly wait to see what you come up with. I’ll start. How about these I’ve seen around the blogosphere.

Char at Essential Keystrokes suggests thinking outside the box. Bloggers, there’s a new name in town - Char likes the sound of “a cadre of conversationalists”… I like it too. :)

Any others? Which are your favourites so far? Keep the suggestions coming. Add them to the comments or send me an email (see below).

Over To You - What Do YOU Call a Collection of Bloggers?

Serious or amusing, outlandish or descriptive, add your suggestions to the comments or email me. There’s no official collective noun for a collection of bloggers yet, so there’s no right or wrong. So what are you waiting for, send them in.

And if the people from Merriam Webster, or the powers that be who make important collective noun decisions come visiting, you could be famous, in the blogosphere at least. ;)

  1. A google of bloggers … how funny! I guess I always think in terms of a community of bloggers or a network of bloggers (for a more formal grouping).

Blog, blogging, and blogger are such new words that maybe we could invent our own plurals. If enough of us use it often enough maybe they will add it to the dictionaries.

    Suggestions anyone?

  2. Here’s another one I found… a googol of bloggers. LOL. I’ll add it to the list along with your suggestions. Thanks Laura.

    Any other suggestions?

  3. How about a boogle or boggle of bloggers…I am a sucker for alliteration.

  4. Hey Ashley… I’m a fan of alliteration too, so I’m leaning towards “a blarney of bloggers”… love your suggestions. I’ll add them now ;)

Anyone else? Keep the suggestions coming. I’ll continue to add them.

  5. My Irish roots love a blarney of bloggers, but I’d like to lose the blogger term. How about a cadre of conversationalists (okay, that is a mouthful).

  6. I saw the Blarney Castle post on your site Char. I love Ireland and the Irish… It’s definitely somewhere I would like to spend a few months writing. A cadre of conversationalists? Now that has a real ring to it. I like it. Move over bloggers… there’s a new name in town.

  7. A sphere of bloggers?

  8. Hi Scott - Thanks for adding this post to StumbleUpon - much appreciated. :)

A sphere of bloggers - this is so apt in many ways, and a shortened version of blogosphere. Great! Thanks for stopping by and addding to our list.

Anyone else with suggestions for a collective noun for bloggers? I’ll keep adding them to the ongoing list.

  9. You could have a “pride of bloggers”. Oh, and let’s not forget a “flock of bloggers”, especially with said browser being moments away from a major release (allegedly).

And, Yvonne, get the Subscribe to Comments plugin, will’ya! I know leaving it off is a crafty way of getting commenters to visit the site’n'all, but all the same…

  10. Great suggestions Rory… both added!

A crafty way… LOL. You must be practising your telepathy skills from over at Hamelife. I have been researching plugins with a view to adding some, and yes - watch for another plugins post coming soon to a blog near you! Subscribe to Comments is a definite must on my list. Thanks for the push along. :)

  11. How about “tapestry of bloggers”? I think bloggers are unique and beautiful in their own way and when you bring them together, they seem like a lovely form of tapestry.

  12. Rach - I love the concept of a tapestry of bloggers, with all the interwoven threads from our memories, experiences, different cultures, interests and expertise. Thanks for suggesting it. I’ve added it to the list.

Any other ideas? Keep them rolling in and I’ll keep adding them. This is an ongoing list which will be updated.
