What I Learned From Procrastinating

I’m taking part in a group writing project at Middle Zone Musings. The theme is “What I Learned From…”
As a self proclaimed expert at procrastinating, one thing I learned does not cover it. Here are ten things I learned by procrastinating.

Ten Things I Learned From Procrastinating

1. I can get lots of things done, just not the one I should be doing
2. Procrastination can be fun and guilt inducing at the same time
3. Procrastination and perfectionism are a sure fire combo for stress
4. There sure are a lot of interesting sites you discover when procrastinating
5. Procrastination is often called research
6. Research is never called procrastination
7. Procrastination is often called thinking
8. Thinking is never called procrastination
9. Checking emails is high in the hierarchy of procrastination
10. Procrastination inevitably leads to doing… eventually…

What Else have I Learned From Procrastination?

Well, I’ll let you know after I’ve pottered, tweaked, researched, thought about it, checked my emails…. ah… can I get back to you on that?.. I promise I will… eventually. ;)

  1. Thanks for the lesson(s), Yvonne! You qualify for the “Procrastinator of the Year” award! Uh, I’ll, sortof, maybe, send it to you… someday. When I find that darned round tuit… Uh, don’t wait up…

  2. LOL… and an official award too! I think there are a few of us researchers thinkers procrastinators about… maybe I’ll start Procrastinators’ Anonymous… except I’d probably never get around to it, and members would probably never get around to coming.. hmm.. will have to think about it some more…. ;)

  3. Thanks for the info. But, I’ve accepted procrastinating as part of my day. For instance, right now, I should be working on a query letter!

  4. This is so true! Actually, I’m a work ahead kind of gal in a family of procrastinators. However, I’ve found that procrastination can be catching.

  5. Terah - I prefer to call it thinking time. This was written tongue in cheek :) but seriously, it seems I need some thinking time on some projects, especially if I have the luxury of a little time before the deadline. Sometimes, I am at my most productive when I am thinking. I mull things over while driving or doing other tasks. By the time I come to write I’m ready to roll.

What can really slow me down is perfectionism, which is also I guess, a form of procrastination. I’m getting tougher on myself with that, though.

  6. Laura - I know what you mean about procrastination being catching. If there is a buzz of everyone doing something and being focused it’s a lot easier to focus yourself.

  7. What an inspirational post! I’ll have to start procrastinating now … nah, later on perhaps …

  8. LOL. Always willing to help out a fellow procrastinator. Thanks for stopping by…. Hey, you weren’t procrastinating, were you? ;)

  9. I always found procrastinating fun. Mainly a challenge. In college I would always try to out do my roommate just because he always studied ahead of time. It was a blast lol and he usually got better grades but the times I did better it was worth it.

  10. LOL. I just visited your site Brett, and it doesn’t sound like you’re procrastinating at all these days. ;)

  11. These are so true!!

  12. This is hilarious, and right up my alley! Thanks for the laugh!

  13. Hi Julia - Great to see you here. I enjoy your blog. Pleased it gave you a smile… I think most of us can identify with the procrastination monster hanging around. :)
