Let a 13 Year Old Blogger Show You How to Make Money Online

Let a 13 Year Old Blogger Show You How to Make Money Online

I’ve written about the inspirational 93 year old blogger, Don Crowdis. Isn’t it great that blogging can break down barriers of age, country and culture, and turn them into partnerships and support? A 60 year old in Denmark can be helped by a 29 year old in New Zealand.

17 year old blogger, John Doe, really made my day when he dropped by to check on Grow Your Writing Business, and commented - “Haven’t visited this site for quite some time… and it’s getting better and better. Way to go Yvonne.” I really appreciated that genuine connection and positive support.

Carl Ocab - 13 Year Old Blogger

Carl Ocab is a 13 year old who started his blog on February 4th, 2007. Technorati ranking? 15, 876 today - not bad, not bad at all. This kid wants to make money online. I bet he’s already doing it. He is smart and ambitious, and I love his cheeky sense of humour, tips and clear explanations. Writers could learn a lot about marketing their blogs and marketing themselves from this savvy 13 year old. I will be following his blog closely. Go Carl!

5 Suggestions for Carl

1. Consider installing a Do Follow plugin (I still have to do this myself), to attract more commenters and visitors by rewarding commenters automatically with link backs.

2. Visit the sites who do reviews for you and leave a comment. This encourages people to come back to your site too, rather than just getting and giving a link. They may become regular visitors.

3. The Ebook costs you nothing once you’ve written it, so how about doing a draw each week, or maybe each 10 reviews, rather than wait for 30? It all helps spread the word.

4. Think about doing a free 30 word (or more) review of the site reviewing yours.

5. Have a regular “Ask Carl” feature where readers can submit a question and you answer in a post. Can I be first? ;)

Savvy Internet Marketing

As a savvy internet marketer, working on the WIFM (What’s In It For Me) principle, Carl offers a link back for every review of his site (minimum 30 words), plus a chance to go into the draw for his upcoming Ebook.

Do I want to win an Ebook by a 13 year old? Too right I do, and I most definitely want the link back, so he has me on board. I told you this kid was smart! Go check out his site. I bet you’ll learn at least one thing you didn’t know before.

  1. Wow! I visited the 13-year-old’s site. And I have to say he gave me some ideas. Good job! I’ve been trying to encourage my 15-year-old daughter to blog. I’ll have to show her that.

  2. It’s great we can all learn from each other, but it gives you a kick in the pants to get moving yourself, when you see a 13 year old with such knowledge and focus.

I guess one of the great things about blogging is everyone has a different motivation and interests. Blogging can be just purely for fun and self expression too.

I hope your 15 year old tries it out for herself. Thanks for stopping by Lisa. Great to see you here again.

    Yvonne

  3. Hi, thanks for your great tips! :) Wow! I love it!

    1. I’m still thinking about this plug-in, cause it will attract more spammers though.. hehehehehe I’ll debate to myself again! :)
    3. Ok, I’ll try that! you’re right, it will cost me nothing though ;-) p.s the book is about web 2.0 traffic
    4. I’m doing it right now.. I’m also reviewing the people who reviewed me :)

  4. Hey, it’s the star himself! Welcome Carl. Great to see you here. Thanks for your responses to my suggestions.

    1. I think installing the Do Follow plugin is at least worth trying it out. You can have a simple comment policy and delete (or tag as spam) any that push it too much.

    2. Great to see you commenting here. I always check the sites of bloggers that comment here, and many I now visit regularly. They got a new reader just by commenting. Sometimes if someone comments who hasn’t commented for a while, it reminds me to go visit their blog. Did I mention I LOVE comments? ;)

    3. I look forward to hearing more about the Ebook. Hey, if you want someone to review it for you, let me know. :)

    4. Great to hear that. I look forward to your review of Grow Your Writing Business

  7. nahh! I’m not a star ;-)

Well, yea. I think the plugin is worth a try. But I’ll test it on my other blogs first. hehehehe

don’t worry about new feature that you tipped me, you’ll be the first person who will know when it’s out!

  8. Hi Carl - You have other blogs? Wow… so you are a star after all. ;) Ooh… I have to think of a question now for the new Ask Carl feature. To be honest, the trouble is I have too many questions, not just one. LOL

  9. This is so inspirational, Yvonne, to learn about young bloggers. As a children’s writer and teacher, as well as blogger, I’m thrilled when I find more young people reading and writing.

  10. Yes, I agree. We can learn a lot from young people in so many ways. Many children in primary (elementary) school are learning to blog at school these days, which is great.

  11. It is impressive how kids 4 years younger than me able to make money easier than I am… I am ashamed from that fact alone. :(

But he’s lucky to have known the “correct” way to make money. Lucky guy. :)

  12. Hi John Doe - Good to see you here again. Well he (and you) are both a good bit younger than I am, so where does that leave me? LOL. No need to be ashamed - we just need to learn how to do it too. ;)

  13. Don’t need to be ashamed :) I’m not that good either.. I’m just starting and also learning too.

yvonne - I’ll be launching the ask carl feature soon. send your question now. so on the launch i’ll post your question

  14. Yippee!! Ahh… the presssure… I’ll have to think of a good question. Give me a few days to think about it. I’m so pleased you’re adding this feature though. :)

  15. Thanks, Yvonne, for leading me to Carl Ocab’s site. WOW. I just browsed and all I could think of, to borrow a phrase from one TV show: “How’d he do that?” I will surely let my students know about this blog. He just inspired me to write and blog some more! (and maybe earn from it later on).
    Thanks again, Yvonne.

  16. “How’d he do that?” LOL. Pretty cool, isn’t it? It will be interesting to hear your students’ thoughts, and their adventures with blogging.

  17. Hi Yvonne, I think Carl is great too, I also did a review of his blog and I learned some things from his blog too. I also learned something from you and I’m thinking about giving that Do Follow plugin a try. Thanks
    Mike

  18. Hi Mike
I’ve just visited your blog. You have a great resource there, and I’ll be back to visit again. Yes, Carl is pretty amazing. I’m pleased you’re going to give the Do Follow plugin a try. Don’t forget to pick up the free logo to let everyone know you reward commenters. It was designed by Randa Clay. I linked to it in this review on the 13 year old blogger.

  19. Carl Ocab is extremely talented and an amazing marketer! Excellent post. It is amazing how he dominates the search engine positions for one of the hottest phrases online, make money online.

  20. These are good suggestions for him; I have already done the DoFollow thing on my own blog. Another possibility for encouraging more comments and discussion is the KeywordLuv plugin, which allows commenters to choose the anchor text for links back to their sites while also including their real names or preferred usernames.
