Blog Tipping

Today is Blog Tipping Day

It’s the first day of the month so it must be Blog Tipping Day. Blog tipping was started by Easton Ellsworth of Business Blogwire, and has taken off around the blogosphere.

What is Blog Tipping?

This kooky tradition is to choose three blogs. Briefly outline the blog focus, and name three things it has going for it. Then finish with a small tip.

It’s a great way to support and interact with fellow bloggers. It’s also a great way to discover new blogs. Now you even have a legitimate excuse (if you’re looking for one), to go exploring. Tangents are allowed too. You can call it blog tipping research.

All my Blog Tipping is intended to be respectful, supportive and helpful. I offer it in that spirit, and as a personal opinion only. I’ve started with three of my favourite blogs, listed in no particular order.

Writing Thoughts

Writing Thoughts
Blogger - Laura Spencer

Writing Thoughts is a writing blog by a professional writer with something useful for both experienced and new writers.

Rave Reviews
1. Professional, informative and insightful articles.

2. Clearly states the blog purpose in opening post of the Blog Purpose category, and keeps to this. This gives the blog a clear direction. I’m rethinking this now for my own blog.

3. Clear top navigation (some contents still in progress) for own professional writing promotion

Small tip to consider
I’m being picky here, as it’s a small thing, but consider adding a line space between bullet points with a lot of text, for easier reading. (I don’t want to miss any of that great info.)

Tried It Myself

Tried It Myself
Blogger - Jose
A new blog, which as the title suggests, is an eclectic but compelling mix of topics, including technology, writing and everyday life and issues.

Rave Reviews
1. Great blog title and interesting blog

2. Proactive with developing a community - responds to comments and developing blog conversations on own blog, and also on the blogs of site visitors

3. Open and genuine tone and style

Small tip to consider
Just a minor design tip - Consider using hspace and vspace tags for images. This way, when the text wraps round, there is a little clear open space around the image.

Heart of Rachel

Heart of Rachel
Blogger - Rachel

This blog shares the everyday life centred around Rachel’s family and friends.

Rave Reviews
1. The warm, friendly family focus of the blog - I’m a fan

2. Very regular posts, photo hunts and other shared activities, encourage daily readers & a real sense of community

3. Great photos and photo editing effects

Small tip to consider
Just keep doing what you’re doing. It works well. :)

Over To You

I encourage you to try Blog Tipping yourself next month. It’s fun. If any readers want to blog tip Grow Your Writing Business, in coming months, (don’t feel you have to), I’m up for a critique. I’m all for improving and delivering, so don’t hold back with your tips - well, maybe just a little… be gentle.

Just realised the next Blog Tipping Day is April Fool’s Day - April 1st… maybe I’ll leave it till April 2nd. ;)

  1. Hi Yvonne,

Wow! This is a wonderful thing that you’ve done for each of us! I really appreciate this. Thank you very much for the praise and for the tip. I’ll do it.

Lifting up and supporting other bloggers is something that I feel is important, and is something I want to do more of. Thanks for setting an awesome example. You really are an Exceptional Blogger!

Thanks again, and have a great day!

    Jose

  2. Hi Jose

You’re welcome. Any “small tips to consider” are my personal opinion only, so feel free to ignore them. :)

Thanks for your kind words. Blog Tipping is fun. I like the collegial, supportive and fun aspects of it. Reading Blog Tipping entries on other sites (regardless of topic), also helped me reflect on my own site.

    Thanks again

    Yvonne

  3. Hi Yvonne. First of all I would like to thank you for this honorable mention. I’m grateful for the warm and generous words you have bestowed on my blog. I’m truly overwhelmed by your kind words.

A fan … wow … I’m lost for words. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also want to let you know, that I admire the way you write. You write really well. Your gift for writing is an inspiration.

Blog Tipping Day is such a marvelous idea. I’m excited to start mine next month. Thank you for sharing this great idea. I agree, it’s a wonderful way of supporting fellow bloggers.

    Take care!

  4. Hi Rach

You’re very welcome. It’s a pleasure to read your blog - very calm and positive. Before I began my blog, I didn’t quite know what style I should write it in e.g. very business like etc. In the end, I decided I just needed to be myself, so it’s lovely to hear your feedback on my writing style. It seems I made the right decision.

Glad you enjoy the blog, and thanks for continuing to visit. It means a lot to me, when people come back to visit again.

    Yvonne

  5. Hi, Yvonne,
I want to tip my hat off to your very positive, professional and generous approach to blogging. Perfect picks, too! Congratulations to them - Laura, Jose and Rachel!!
    Princess

  6. Hi Princess

Thanks so much. It’s great fun to be able to highlight other blogs and bloggers… so many to choose from. I’m already working on my list for April. I’m looking forward to the next Blog Tipping Day, but I have to wait a whole month. :)

    Yvonne

  7. Thanks for the very kind words Yvonne. I’m afraid I went dreadfully astray from my blog purpose today, though. I feel bad after such warm praise…

Thanks also for helping me discover Rachel’s blog (I’d already discovered Jose’s great blog.) Rachel’s blog is fantastic!

Thanks for your blog too. I like the way you balance information, support for others, and technical topics.

  8. Hi Laura

It’s a pleasure. Thanks for your generous words. I really need to define my blog purpose more clearly in my own mind. In a sense, as a new blogger, I am still exploring and refining the purpose, myself. It’s kind of you to call it a “balance”, though, so I will keep that in mind too. :)

Great to hear that you’ve discovered Jose’s and Rachel’s blogs. Enjoy!

    All the best

    Yvonne

  9. Kooky - love that description. I know it’s kind of nuts - that’s part of the fun of it, eh?

Great job here, Yvonne. I’ll link to this in my digest post today!

  10. Hi Easton

Thanks for starting the Blog Tipping concept, and for sharing it. Yes, Blog Tipping is definitely fun!

Thanks for stopping by to comment.
